I would like to begin my platform with a quote from Henry Ford one of America's car industry great entrepreneurs: "You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do."
At this critical moment in UNAA's history I invite everyone to look at what I have done for the organization and have the trust to know that I will deliver much more as UNAA's Vice President, to cement the gains and the progress we have made so far in the 21 years of UNAA's existence. I see UNAA as a Highway to so many opportunities for Ugandans here in North America and the Diaspora. If we are better off, we can do much more for our relatives in our motherland and for the people who will come after us.
As our community in the Diaspora grows however, more challenges arise that may not be handled by a single individual or a single family. We for instance have an increasing young generation of Ugandan Americans on the one hand and an aging population on the other. The gap between these two groups in terms of value systems continues to widen. This is only one aspect where UNAA should become our 'insurance policy' for the future. But to achieve this we must elevate UNAA beyond an individual's level and beyond personal gain to a level of our common hopes and aspirations. To protect this Highway to our opportunities from being misused as a platform for self-gain and divisive agendas, this is what I propose to do as Vice President:
- I will abide by our Constitution as I have always done and will help sensitize our membership about how this great document protects our organization. As 2-term Secretary General I have come to conclude that this is important for UNAA's survival.
- I will help craft policies that will safeguard our organization against economic, social and political forces that may tear it apart. UNAA is A-Political and welcomes everyone respecting their freedom of association but it lacks policies to this effect. This gaping loophole is exploited by those who thrive on division and petty issues to further their individual agendas.
- As reflected in my track record at the end of this document, I will actively engage our local communities to deliver on the promises and the hopes this organization can bring.
- As a results-oriented person and with a great deal of experience in UNAA and in local communities and governance, I will help Ugandan communities and teams across the country learn from each other how to reap the many opportunities this Highway provides, following in the footsteps of the Jewish Communities, Mexican Communities, Somali communities and others that have succeeded.
I would like to conclude my platform by asking YOU one thing; to always examine my track record and trust that I will NOT fail you. As Henry Ford suggests in the quote above, the value of your VOTE should always be 'purchased' by the strength of one's track record.

When Mick Jagger sang about sex, drugs and rock and roll, nobody doubted his credibility. When Johnny Cash sang “Walk The Line,” people knew he’d had trouble walkin’ one. And when Emmylou Harris sang about heartbreak, audiences felt her ache. Authentic artists share a gift for communicating truth; truth mined from their own life experiences and expertly spun into three-minute, melodic vignettes (Source: http://www.myspace.com/joeyandrory).
When Bebe Cool sang “Agenze”, a song about his marital troubles when Zuena left him, some artists whose names I hesitate to mention attacked him for putting his “private matters” in music. |
