Some tabloids have spread rumors that Akon has accepted responsibility of Susan Awori's baby. According to yardflex.com, Akon and Owori were hanging out in clubs from Dar to London and he even flew her to Atlanta, which caused her to break up with her boyfriend (UK-based Ugandan music duo) Da Twinz singers." Another source in an attempt to create credibility for their story reported "Seems like Susan Owori couldn't get in contact with the Senegalese singer to serve him with papers, so to get his attention, she sold her story to a tabloid" They even quoted Akon speaking to the NY Daily News as confirmation saying: "I think kids are a blessing," said the currently married sex symbol. "[To set the record straight], I never ran away from my responsibilities and I never plan to. Everything I am doing now is for [my other five kids] anyway, so the more kids I can have, the better. I just love them." Beaming with pride, Akon said, "It's a boy and he's handsome as hell." However, the quoted article of the NY Daily News was about another child by a "Sara Coleman" and not by Susan Awori as stated in the tabloid. According to the Monitor Uganda News paper, it was confirmed that Suzan was seen with Akon at Serena Hotel during his visit in Uganda but the time of the visit and the due date for the baby were not in agreement, which shed doubts as to the credibility of the claims.

Scientists Join Forces to Explain HIV Spread in Central and East Africa.
Scientists studying biology and geography may seem worlds apart, but together they have answered a question that has defied explanation about the spread of the HIV-1 epidemic in Africa.
Writing in the September issue of AIDS, a research team led by scientists at the University of Florida explained why two subtypes of HIV-1 — the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS — held steady at relatively low levels for more than 50 years in west central Africa before erupting as an epidemic in east Africa in the 1970s.
Essentially, the explanation for the HIV explosion — obscured until now — involves the relative ease with which people can travel from city to city in east Africa as opposed to the difficulties faced by people living in the population centers of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the point where HIV emerged from west central Africa in its spread to the east. |
