Her giant steps put her followers several meters before the finish in a sprint to which no one could follow. Medical experts are currently investigating whether she has a male ignorant chromosome combination. "This is a very sensitive issue. We have no final evidence and there is no reason to prohibit the start of the investigation," said IAAF spokesman Nick Davies. At least four experts are involved. Normally, women have two X chromosomes (XX) in their cells, men one X and one Y chromosome (XY). Some with a Y chromosome develop all the people born physically characteristics of a woman - with the exception of the inner sexual organs. They suffer from the androgen insufficiency syndrome (AIS). Seven of the eight women in 1996 at the Olympics in Atlanta tested positive for Y-chromosomes, had AIS and were allowed to participate.
The International Olympic Committee had controversial 1968 "Gender Verification" (sex test) as a binding introduced before the Summer Games 2000 in Sydney, but again abolished and it now sees only in contentious cases. The IAAF has its tests abolished.

The IAAF spokesman Nick Davies could not say what would happen if in retrospect appears that Semenya unknowingly is a man. Davies stressed that this is not a doping offense. "There is no pre-planned steps. We go discreetly and sensitively with the case. It is a medical issue."
Studies have recently begun. "We are awaiting the outcome of the investigation. It would be wrong not to run the tests," said Davies.
At the age of 18, Caster Semenya recently became the fourth fastest South African women ever over 800m with her personal best time of 2:00.58. She also broken Zola Budd's South African Junior record, that has stood since 1984! During the Berlin 2009 IAAF she won the gold medal setting a record at 1 min 55.45 seconds. She was followed by Kenya's Janeth Busienei coming in at 1:57.90 and the Jeniffer Meadows (GBR) at 1:57.93.
