Bebe, Bobi set records by Isaac Ssejjombwe.

In one corner was Bebe Cool at kyadondo rugby club with his Agenze album launch organized by Balaam and Silk events and in the opposite corner was Bobi Wine at Africana people’s space with Carolina launch organized by Kibo and Events ware house. The judges were the fans and the fight was all about supremacy in the music industry. What started as a musical battle ended up with both artists making tremendous records that will take a music genius to break. With over 10,000 people gracing his album launch, Bebe became the first artist to attract such a huge crowd at a concert while Bobi Wine usurped the record of getting more people at Africana previously held by Chameleon and the Goodlyf members while launching bayuda and bread $ butter last year.

Interview with Jazz and Soul Crooner Douye’

If you consider an African Jazz music album that will serenade you and put you in the love mood, “Journey” is the album you need to have in your collection, especially for the ladies out there. If you want to set that love mood and you are wondering what music to play to compliment your moment, look no further. Journey by the Nigerian born Douye’ is a very carefully crafted album that will create the ambience or just a relaxing mood when you need to cuddle up with your man. Let Douye’s sensual voice penetrate the hidden parts of the heart and soul that your personal words and touch may not reach. With songs which have such emotion and sincerity like “Waiting for my man” and “The Voice”, any lady will identify with Douye’ and trust me, if any woman plays these songs for her man under the candle light, any gentleman will be blown away! Another track that cannot be escaped on this is album is “Cold Wind Blows”. Just like the title says, bring the sea shores into your home and let the cold wind blow away all the cares of the world. This song underscores the soft and delicate side of Douye’ and makes her shine as an artist. Even those who are hurting were not abandoned, they will easily identify with songs like “Still Hurting”. After listening to “Journey”, we could not resist the urge to learn more about the soulful lady who is behind these ballads. As a result, we recently caught up with Douye’ so that she can share with us her experience during the recording of this wonderful 11 track album. Here is what Douye’ had to say

The 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain which took place at the Indoor Arena, Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi, Kenya were dominated by Nigerian artists while Nameless from Kenyan scooped two awards: the Best Male award and the Listeners choice award. The show which was hosted by Wyclef Jean showed the other side of Akon when both of them stripped to their boxers and Akon sticking a microphone in his boxer! Whatever that was all about Akon will tell us some day. Otherwise all we can do is to ask why Akon needs a microphone supplement?

And the winners for the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards are:

Kora Awards 2008 finally set to take place Sunday 20th December, 2009

After several times of procrastination for the highly anticipated 2008 Kora Awards, the organizers finally set a date for the award. Remember the overall Best African Music Artist, will bag 1 Million U.S. Dollars, courtesy of First Bank plc!. The ceremony was earlier scheduled to take place on Saturday December 6, 2008 in Tinapa, Cross River State, Nigeria. The event was postponed to April 11, 2009. The award ceremony is now set for Sunday 20th December, 2009 and hopefully this time we will see a winner! A document on the official website reads: Ladies and gentlemen, We write to inform you of the postponement of the KORA 2009 Awards ceremony. The main reason for this being the inefficiency of the voting system due to the inability of some CFI TV partners (to whom KORA is given for free), to diffuse the KORA countdown which should enable the populace to vote fairly and equitably.

Scientists Join Forces to Explain HIV Spread in Central and East Africa.

Scientists studying biology and geography may seem worlds apart, but together they have answered a question that has defied explanation about the spread of the HIV-1 epidemic in Africa. Writing in the September issue of AIDS, a research team led by scientists at the University of Florida explained why two subtypes of HIV-1 — the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS — held steady at relatively low levels for more than 50 years in west central Africa before erupting as an epidemic in east Africa in the 1970s. Essentially, the explanation for the HIV explosion — obscured until now — involves the relative ease with which people can travel from city to city in east Africa as opposed to the difficulties faced by people living in the population centers of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the point where HIV emerged from west central Africa in its spread to the east.
