Last week Saturday night some of Dancehall and Reggae's best entertainers lent their support to the "Music in the name of Life" concert staged at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Center, Hope Road.
Though the concert attracted very few patrons, those who were there enjoyed themselves: particularly a one-legged woman. She often hopped out of her wheelchair to the front of the stage, then back to her chair to rest, and at one point hopped to the rear of the chair to brace on its handles for support...and dutty wined. Harare Zimbabwe:
THE Usual Place Afro-Jazz Bar of Cresta Jameson Hotel is the usual after-work rendezvous for many Harare executives and other seemingly senior citizens of the capital. Friday nights are the most hectic and are suitably dubbed "Dada's Day Out".
The Usual Place is unusual in that it is one of the freshest jazz venues in Harare. It exudes maturity and class, perhaps not at all like the legendary New York nightclub called Minton's where Bebop was born, with such jazz "greats" as Charlie "Bird" Parker, Miles Davis, Theolonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and others "jamming" regularly.
Minton's was probably not as classy or as status-filled at The Usual Place, a jazz joint which, nonetheless is frequented by people who can be said to "have arrived". |
