It is obvious that the Ugandan music industry
has seen rapid growth and has also transformed artists in to
respectable citizens, boasting of sleek rides, big mansions, staging
sold out shows and some have even stood with the local population
spawning huge donations in times of natural disasters. Take the example
of when Kampala's local flea market (Owino) was gutted by fire and a
few musicians contributed large sums of money. The "Firebase President"
Bobi Wine even offered to sell his Escalade and threatened to donate
the proceeds to the market vendors. Not sure if a buyer for the custom
ride came up. Now if you are asking where does Bobi get his monies
from, you need to ask Eddy the promoter who brought the Fire Base Crew
for the recent Schengen states live concert. Finally people will
realize where the "Firebase President" gets his green. Recently in
Amsterdam, the Firebase crew performed at a well attended show. The
entire crew including the "President of Uganja Republic" Bobi Wine,
Nubian Li, Buchaman and the young but seriously upcoming Mickie Wine
were there to perform. The tour which was organized by the "African
Cultural Promotion" in conjuction with "Nedas" and co-sponsored by
AfriRhythms Entertainment, took place sunday, May 31, 2009 at the "Cafe
De Legmeer" Amsterdam, Netherlands. A quick survey showed that the
performance by the "The Fire Base Crew" in Amsterdam was highly
appreciated by the audience! So many Ugandans trekked in from all over
Europe
to attend Bobi Wine's concert in Amsterdam.
The show started
late almost 30 minutes after midnight and some people were getting
weary and had started to think that the show was "Kiwani" (lies). Soon,
the Germany based Aloysius Bbaale stormed up to the stage, with four
beautiful young ladies openning with his hit "Maria"!
He was followed by Atomico, a Ugandan artist based in Amsterdam and
then Falouk Brixman from Rotterdam. The youngest of "fire base Crew"
Mickie Wine then started to change the mood of the show. The man behind
the "Kabadi" (whatever Kabadi means) hit set the crowd extatic, as he
opened up for the fire base crew! Remember Mickie recently released a
single titled "Yanimba" (She lied to me), which is a must listen.
Nubian Lee, also made his mark when he impressed the audience by
singing about 5 songs.
When Butcherman started performing the girls could not hold it any more
as scores of them surrounded him while singing "Abakyaala lwaaki
temummatira?" (losely translated as "why do you dis me?").
It was unbelievable the way ladies liked this song!
After Butcherman, Bobi Wine took on the stage to claim his title
(President)!
"Mazzi Mawanvu" (Deep Waters) got a warm welcome from the crowd.
Apparently almost everybody in the hall, knows the
songs of the "hit after hit after hit Uganja President", because the
crowd was singing along with him!
He entertained the crowd for almost an hour and half, jumping, and
singing with power. He was dripping,
and pouring with sweat, but he still put on a tough face. Summarily
Bobi delivered to the expectations of the crowd.
People liked almost all of Bobi Wine's songs, but outstanding was
"Mazzi Mawanvu" which
made them go crazy!
The concert ended at 4 am in the morning though some of the people
wanted him to continue.
After the show, Ghetto President and his crew were driven to their
rented Amsterdam State House! Father's
