Biography:
Becky Umeh, artistically known as Alejo, is an accomplished artiste from Nigeria. She is a singer, a dancer, a choreographer, an actress and a producer. She began her artistic career while in high school, when she appeared in her first stage play entitled "Three Invisible," which landed her a leading role in "Tales by Moonlight, a popular program that aired on the Nigerian Television Authority. She studied Contemporary and Traditional African dance at the Ivory Dance Academy, and she graduated with degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, she served as the Dance Director of Ivory dance troupe for five years, directing and producing shows for Guinness, Mobile, Chevron, Seven-Up Bottling Company etc. After a brief tour to Ghana, she traveled to Paris during World Cup '98 with the soccer team of Nigeria. Becky Umeh launched her singing career and founded her band, and together they produced the album "Aiye".

From 1998 to 2001, she co-hosted a T.V show-Dance Jam Competition. In 2002, following her production of the cultural fiesta "Afrifest," where she brought the dance troupes of Africa together, she served as assistant choreographer for the beauty pageant and the winner became Miss World 2002. The French Cultural Center (thanks to their support), the Goethe German Institute, the Nigeria Music awards, and federal capital are among the many places Alejo has performed.

While in the United States, she has worked with many producers, including Medrano, Nancy Havliks (Stage Director) and George Faiso (New York choreographer). She has performed for non-profit organizations such as the Red Cross, the Nigerian Embassy, the Josephine Butler Center and the Wesley Church. Other performances include American University, Howard University, George Washington University-Washington DC, Potter's House, North and South Carolina University, Massachusetts, New York, the Iris Festival, the Convention Center and the Heritage Carnival Festival in Prince George's County. Her most recent project has been choreographing the Lion King Production sponsored by Metropolitan Fine Arts in Virginia.
